How do I take care of my chainsaw carving?

Most wood bears / carvings will crack. We carve out of green or wet wood. To carve out of dry wood would time alot longer and damage the saws. The water in the green wood acts as a lubricant with the bar lubricant. As the wood dries it shrinks and thus cracks.

If you have bought a bear from us please do the following to care for it.

To keep the cracking to a minimum please give the bear 3 more coats of Polyurathane or Clear Spray Paint.
  • Spray the 1st coat shortly after you purchase the bear.
  • Wait 3 weeks and spray a 2nd coat
  • Wait 3 more weeks and spray a 3rd Coat.
The Solids in the Polyurathane trade out for the water as the carving dries.

If you bought the bear somewhere else you need to know what the carver put on it. If it is an oil finish then you should be able to follow my instructions. If it is an water based finish continue to use an water based top coat but not to much.

Please call or email with any questions.
